Fully Known

Uniquely Designed copy

By Carla O’Brien

I love the lyrics in the song “Fully Known” by Tauren Wells.

The chorus proclaims –

I’m fully known and loved by you

You won’t let go no matter what I do

And it’s not one or the other

It’s hard truth and ridiculous grace

To be fully known and loved by you

I’m fully known and loved by you

Now, let’s be honest here, sisters. If we truly believed this we would live in freedom. Unlike where most of us reside, fear. Oh, if people really knew me?

 God does. Fully.

Apostle Paul writes in his letter to the church at Corinth – “Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12

We look through dirty glasses at ourselves and others; God looks through pure clear eyes. God offers grace. We offer judgment.

We spend wasted energy and days trying to keep our life under spiritual control, cleaning ourselves up so we can be approved of by others and ultimately God. That is not grace. That, my friend, is pride.

It took me years to understand this freedom. I worked hard on my “Carla” image. You know, the one you dress up and show to the world. Working, cleaning, worrying about what others think. I do think my age played a part in this revelation, but ultimately through years of studying the truth of the word of God, I saw how God loves me. Me. The me God fully knows.

God made only one you. Goofy, quirky, unique you. He fully knows who He made. He fully loves this you. The secret sauce to you loving you is to embrace HIS truth. Quit trying to be someone that you are not and enjoy the uniqueness of you. In other words, lighten up and give yourself grace!

And I know this might come as a shock…but not everyone is going to like you. Not everyone is going to applaud your “you”.  Jesus will.

Walk in it sister. Roll around in it. Luxuriate in the promise that your Father in heaven fully knows you, and is helping you become your best you.

Hallelujah! Now go listen to the song and dance.
